The history of Firefighter Combat Challenge dates back to 1975, when the University of Maryland's Sports Medicine Center was commissioned to carry out research to determine the physical requirements for firefighters. A large part of them was based on five consecutive tasks that mapped the firefighter's work during rescue and firefighting operations. They were supposed to remain only a test of fitness, but in 1991 they became a competition known today as the Firefighter Combat Challenge.
